We had let the house go during the week and when Paige was sick we didn't clean anything really. We finally got around to cleaning up a little Saturday and into Sunday, but Jen and I both knew that the illness Paige had was going to hit us soon.
Sunday we went to Tea at the Huntington with my Parents to celebrate my Dad's Birthday. Now usually when we go to Tea with Jen's dad, we have a routine walk that takes place after tea. Promptly after the walk we leave. There is NO DEVIATION from the walk. So when I go with My parents I always say... "Ok, i've not seen this gallery, or that new piece in the Library" and I go check out the things i want to. Its not that I can't do that with Jen's Dad, I just know he likes his Sunday to walk around and I don't fuck with it.
So this Sunday I went into the Boone Gallery to check out the Greene and Greene exhibition. Now I've gotta go carve out a couple more hours somewhere to go back and spend a lot more time looking at the pieces in there. I showed Jen a Plan and Elevation view of a stone gateway and asked her where it was. She just starred. She recognized it, but couldn't place it. The Elevation view of a bridge next to it was her hint. Still nothing. It took her awhile, but finally placed the Bridge as the bridge from Fair Oaks to Oak Lawn in South Pasadena. Then the stone gateway popped. It was the gateway into Oak Lawn from Colombia Ave. We lived a block away from both when we lived on Grace Drive in South Pasadena.
The collection included furniture, fireplace andirons, lighting fixtures, and a huge number of blueprints and illustrations.
Then we made a quick run through the new Science hall in the Library. This new permanent collection is unbelievable. Its what I wish science museums were like when I was a kid. There is plenty of hands on activities, but not to the point of making the installations "low brow". The one amazing thing is the number of scientific journals under glass. Every one turned to a page showing the notes and illustrations of scientists in the field, or just their observations of some phenomenon that nobody else had seemed to notice before. I only spent 20 minutes walking through all the rooms, but my first impression was that I've gotta go back to this many many many times to soak in all the information that's there.
So, the rest of Sunday was just more cleaning the house and finally getting the Tree. Paige was still confused about the lights on the house, and now bringing a tree into the house was really screwing with her head.
We didn't get a whole lot done other than put the lights on the tree, but I started working and ended up staying up to 3AM. Just after I came to bed Monday morning, Jen got up and started getting sick. Jen and I both took the day Monday and just sat around the house.
But the fun really came when Paige woke up the last couple nights. She didn't have a fever, but she'd scream for a couple minutes and then fall back to sleep. We couldn't get her to tell us where it hurt, but when she'd wake up in the morning, she was just fine and happy. We thought about taking her to the Doctor on Saturday, but she was doing great all day. So finally Jen took her today and found out she had a ear infection. fun fun fun. We tonight she's got medication so she'll sleep better.
