mmmm lunch at Chipotle with Brian, Wendy and Skeely. Very nice. I need to be let out of my cage more often. I did however get a
"parking card" today, so i am able to come and go as i please now, and not have to walk almost everywhere.

How many ways can i say FUCK MICROSOFT?
ok, i know its a rhetorical question.
From a Microsoft document addressing the issues of XP Service Pack 2:
"Q: Does your Web site launch pop-up windows through other objects
(e.g., Macromedia Flash movies)?
A: These pop-up blocker blocks these pop-up windows. There is no workaround."
Nice, no workaround, and no solution. So that just means when people start to really install service pack 2, a dumpload of websites i've
built will have major features that don't work any longer. Simple features like linking to another page. Praise microshit for their
incredible insight.

i am going to have to deal with so much shit in the office tomorrow. fuckin Detroit fans won't let THIS one go. Just one
question... Did the Lakers play offense at ALL tonight? If they did, i missed it.

I was talking with the art director here the other day. we got on the subject of colors and what colors would look good on a project
we're working on. The color selection that we finally went with was very close to the color of his shirt. Earlier that day we had a couple
of workmen fixing the AC in the office, and they had a
laser sighted
temperature meter. After seeing the stupid little thing in action, i really want somebody to build another little gadget that would
read out Hex and RBG values of colors. Point it at anything and you'd be able to code the HTML for it instantly. :)

There was no chance for the people on the West Coast of the US to see the
Venus transit today. The sun wasn't up yet. So we've
gotta wait til 2012 to see the next venus transit. After that it will be over 100 years til the next one.

Yes, on ESPN they're showing some crazy table tennis, but i don't know about extreme. Enter this into the books as yet
another misuse of the X word.

It was my Parent's 40th Anniversary yesterday. We started the day hanging out with them and going to Breakfast at Julienne
in San Marino. Jen and I got there right at 8 as they opened and almost every table in the place was already packed. As we sit
down the new hostess brings us a few menus, and we exchange looks. There's a brief pause. Then she says, hey, you're my
neighbors. And at that moment Jen and I realize why she looks so familiar. Our upstairs neighbor (not psycho-crazy-ass
"across the hall" neighbor) is the new hostess at Julienne.
After breakfast we headed over to my parent's to see the progress on the kitchen. The counter tops are in and the tile is all in
behind the sink etc. The cabinets are being worked on, and the floors will be going in soon. They had a new electrical drop put
in the top beam of the ceiling where they are putting a ceiling fan and a couple lights. I took a couple minutes to connect a
new printer they got, and then we started to talk about speakers for their kitchen. Jen came up with the idea of actually
putting the speakers up in the wall, and while the electrician is there he could wire the entire thing. So now comes the funny
part. My father had been told my some dumbass SEARS salesperson, that the BOSE speakers are completely wireless. You can
put em anywhere. So we go into a huge discussion about wireless speakers. I actually start to research all the BOSE products
looking for some wireless speakers. What i found was that even i started to get confused about all their speakers. In no place
do they ever show wires to any of their products. They display the speakers in the most incredible positions, and always with
no wires. So my father finally called a BOSE outlet and asked a real sales rep. There are no wireless BOSE speakers.
So Jen and I headed home and Jen got to work. We had In N Out for lunch and then said we would be good for dinner. Jen
went to the store to pick up makings for dinner. Just then her father calls. He suggests that we go to Becham Grill for dinner.
There is no way in hell Jen and I are going to turn this down. So instead of eating something light for dinner, we go the
opposite direction altogether. So by the time we get home, we're just about dead from all the food we've eaten during the day.
So far today i've been lazy. Jen got up and ran, but i just have been screwing around working on blog code. So titles are in and
the RSS feed has been improved. I'm going to attempt a search function, but i think thats going to take me a little while
longer.

happiness that i know this is actually written on the product.

Sever beach did a little maintenance on their huge server complex in Texas. I thought my server was in this complex. Nope. So me
being a dumbass, i shut my server down just like Server Beach told everybody to do, 10 to 15 minutes before the maintenance. But my
server is in Virginia. So in the morning nobody had rebooted my server. I start to really track down everything thats going on, and i
realize that i just need to restart my server myself. So i go to serverbeach and attempt to login to their interface. I don't have a
password, and unfortunately my contact email just sends the new password to the server that's shut down. :( So a little phone call
later and a few hoops that i had to jump through, i got the server up and running. Hopefully all 3 people on the box didnt get to pissy.
But we're back up and running.

For a few summers i worked at a print shop in "an industrial area of Glendale", so when i read
this article about
Applied Minds i stopped and jumped to
Mapquest. There is really only one area of Glendale that could be labeled "industrial", and very much to my surprise Applied Minds is
about a block away from the place i used to work. Now thinking back there were a lot of cool little industrial buildings in that area. I
guess these guys built their little nerd lair right there. I just always find it very pleasing knowing that cool places like this are very very
close.

Its about time i took care of all the blogs that are on the old server. Everybody i can move today is moving. So if anybody
needs to give me DNS information, now would be a good time. Also if you would rather change your DNS yourself... go right
ahead. primary NS1.GEODNS.NET, secondary NS2.GEODNS.NET. Simple enough. All MT will be upgraded to 2.6.6.1 if they
are not already. So i've got a fun saturday planned.
Sunday June 20th 2004 10:11 AM PST
I didnt get as much done yesterday as i had wanted. I finally figured out the login to ponnerbell, and started to archive all the
templates and get ready for the move. At the same time i ftped all the images and other files from one server to the other.
Then i got to the export point of the job. MT usually just dumps everything into one huge data dump. Well it got about 30
entries in and just stops. So i don't get close to all of the blog entries. This has led me to believe that there are data corruption
problems with the database. But the site seems to rebuild just fine. So i'm looking for an alternate approach to the export of
blog entries. I found the "experimental" mt-view.cgi, and a huge amount of documentation on it. So i'm thinking now that
using a template change, the mt-view.cgi and a php script, i should be able to generate the same data dump that the MT
export would do. Its gonna take a little work and maybe some duct tape, but i think i can get it to work. The other option is do
an export, and then delete the entries that i got. Then try to export again, seeing if i will get more entries. All after a backup
of all data, that is to be sure.
I got a lot of other work to do today too. I got a couple changes that should be quick on a little disney game, and then i got to
do ad banner comps. fun fun fun. Well dinner tonight will be good at Trio. I'm lookin
forward to that.
Sunday June 20th 2004 10:17 AM PST
Friday night Me, Jen, Will and Reb went to Shogun for dinner. mmmmm fire.

Then yesterday Jen and I went over to my parents to hang out and just sit around. Pokie came to the back door looking for a
handout. As Jen says, "thank god your parents don't live near bears"

the running joke: I'll save my sick days for days that i'm well.
For the smart people that stay home and try to take care of themselves and get better... I really hope you feel better. You're doing the
right thing. I hate getting sick, and i never wish that on anybody.

Jen ran off to San Diego yesterday. I got home and popped something in the microwave. Leftover lasagna. I got right to
work. I was so productive that i had everything done by the time West Wing was on at 11. The only interruption was a call
from my father telling me how awful a business person i am. Quite a morale boost. We won't go into the details, but i have
one less
client that i have to deal with. Well thats one more
domain off the box. Maybe i can really shut it down at the end of next month. Well off to work. I've got more important
things to deal with.
Saturday June 26th 2004 09:58 AM PST
nothing could have made this Saturday start off better. Jen ran out the door today to go to the cleaners and do a couple
things. She was met by the best possible sight. Our neighbor across the hall is moving out. So now calculating the odds... i
think we have a very good chance of getting a better neighbor. There are not too many people can could move in that could
possibly be more crazy.
i'll see if i can snap a couple pictures of the move.

So as Steve Jobs gives his keynote, the geeks spread the word of all the new releases. People sitting in the keynote now are wirelessly
connected to IRC channels, blog, newsgroups etc and going nuts about the new toys. So far the 30 inch cinema display has caught my
attention. The new display runs up to 2560x1600! The power necessary to run that kind of rez has to come from a $600 Nvidia card
with 2DVI connectors. The funny rumor i've already heard is that it ONLY works in a G5. I've got a feeling people will be buying more
G5's just to get this kick ass display. And... Aluminum finish from what i hear.
There all kinds of rumors i've heard about software updates. I'm really hoping the RSS support in Safari is the real thing. Although i
really love my NetNewsWire, i'll set it aside if Safari could take care of browsing and RSS management. Anyway... more to come soon
as the rumors disappear and the real releases are made.

I went to the Dodgers vs Angels game yesterday with Jen's father. We sat in the third row directly behind home plate in the Club House
seats. We really got there about an hour before the game started because theres a buffet in the clubhouse. We sat down and had
dodger dogs, Farmer John ham and cold beer. So the game was just a normal baseball game to watch, and i think Will would be happy to
hear that the crowd was really relaxed and mellow. Nobody trying to get cheers going, or the fuckin wave. I explained to Bob that the
best thing to do up in the reds is to twist the corners of a napkin and make a little parachute. Then you let the thing go over the edge of
the level. They'll float around for hours in the updraft of the Stadium. But i kept my eyes open for the beach balls bouncing around.
None of em got down to our area, but you'd always hear a random section start to boo for no reason at all. Then you realized that the
stadium attendant had finally gotten the beachball and popped it. No worries, there were about 10 going at one time in the 4th. But
the best was out in the pavilion. I had my sunglasses on, which are not prescription. I had to quickly break out my other glasses to see.
I saw this thing being bounced around in the pavilion seats. It was being thrown around and looked like a squid or octopus or something.
But when i put my glasses on i suddenly burst out laughing. It was a partially inflated "inflate-a-date". It only bounced around for a few
minutes til they got ahold of it, but it was damn funny nonetheless.
So the sun was just behind us most of the day, and we were in direct sunlight the entire time. So my shorts just come to above my
knee. Today, i've got burt knees.
I do have to say one of the best things in the game yesterday was seeing the dodgers pitcher Kazuhisa Ishii hit his 3rd RBI of the season.
The crowd went fuckin NUTS. Oh, and BTW the peanuts at the stadium are always the best.

I've been building out pointrolls for a client. If you don't know what a pointroll is, then you should be happy and you should stop reading
here. For those of you who didn't take my advise and stop reading, a pointroll is an internet ad banner that expands as a user rolls into
it. So a small 728x90 banner at the top of a website will suddenly increase to a size of 728x315. The trick is done with a set of dhtml
layers and a lot of javascript magic. Well the big problem is... my banners are all flash. So they actually are not connected in any way.
The original banner is also covered by a fucking imagemap, so all mouse control doesn't do shit in this flash movie. So i've got a cludge
of code where the original banner and the expansion banner are using local connections to send data back and forth to each other. The
original banner never will be able to tell where the mouse is, but the expansion banner is able to track the mouse. SO.... if i want mouse
interaction in the original space, i need the expansion banner to tell the original banner where the fuckin mouse is. Its a complete pain in
the ass, but i do have to say its opened up a possibility of cool easter eggs. Because each banner uses a local connection, they are
literally sending and receiving data. Each one is set to listen, and then reacts when data is received. SO... you could build a group of
banners each waiting for a specific connection. In other banners you send that connection. So if two banners were to load on the same
page, or two banners at the same time, they could trigger special animations or sequences.
EVEN BETTER
Jason Brian and I have always been screwing around with ECD content that would unlock websites. You could run a flash movie on a CD
and link to a web site. The web site flash could then be aware of the original flash running and authenticate user entry. It would be
great if flash was a little more secure, otherwise i would really think about using this technique in the future.

While working for a company that made movie posters, i was always aware of the general guidelines that the MPAA would look at. The
MPAA always had a very strict evaluation process that would end up killing even the most brilliant poster comps. But i just fine it funny
to see a
consolidated list of
criteria as listed for the Resident Evil 2 fan poster contest. I think on a number of occasions we violated the "2 gun" rule, and
posters were modified or killed. That was tombraider... then the next summer, matrix was able to break the 2 gun rule. Anyway, the
list is funny because you really never think about "No mutations/mutilations/cadavers" when making a poster for a ZOMBIE MOVIE.
