On saturday i spent the day over at Epic Sports in paseo helping out with their skate event. I helped out just with providing music while all the bands were setting up and took a bunch of pictures for their site.

BTW this kid starts 2ND grade on Tuesday. That's right. He's only 7 years old. Its little Hurley. His dad started Hurley (well duh, thats his name) and now it seems that he is breeding his own skate team. AND doing a great job of it as well.

I finally got moved to a new home. No longer am i taking space or suckin bandwidth from Jason. I've got everything on my own virt host now, and i think i'm gonna need to retool a lot. I'm uploading all of Will's stuff as we speak and as soon as its done i still gotta get moviesnooze back up.

We just gat back from Hamburger Hamlet where Will, Justin, Jen and I all had dinner. It was good to just get out today. Justin hung out most of the day and we went to Fry's to look at computer parts and check out prices. We had lunch at Dalt's Grill in Burbank and then just screwed around here at home. We did get a small website done for his mom and her new book, so today was not completely wasted. Well i gotta get work done now and get to sleep.

Sunday September 7th 2003 11:00 PM PST
This weekend was a little surreal. Jen and I left early on Saturday morning to drive up to Lindsay. If you want to know where it is, take a look north of Los Angeles and find Bakersfield, then keep going north about another hour. We were headed out to Ann Dehaene and Richard Nelson's wedding. Lindsay is Ann's home town so the wedding was a little church there. Jen and I figured we were going to change at the church or somewhere around lindsay. We made great time on the road and actually stopped in Porterville and checked into our hotel early so we could get ready there.

We headed into Lindsay and found the church. Angelo and Adam were waiting outside. Angelo was actually helping out as the acolyte for the service. His borrowed robe from LMU was so "upscale" that it made him look a little more important than the minister running the show. A few times during the service you could not see the minister at all behind Ann and Richard so it actually looked like Angelo was in charge. :)

During the service at "the peace" after communion everybody greets one another. I was surprised to find Aron Bishop sitting directly behind me and he was just as shocked that he had not noticed me earlier.

Anne and Richard left the church in a convertible 59 edsel. Beautiful car, but we were a little worried about Ann's hair with the top down. I guess they knew all the backroads to get them to the reception without having to drive on the highway. The reception was at a country club just on the edge of Porterville. We grabbed a table where me Jen, Angelo, Adam, Aron, Jeff (he's with Aron) sat. The two extra chairs were eventually taken by Ann's boss and her husband. Everything at the reception was beautiful. The toasts were perfect. So we stayed there almost to the very end.

Then what do you do in the middle of nowhere on a Saturday night. Angelo and Adam were staying at the best western that we were at, so we all said it might be nice to run and grab some food late at night. Well by the time we got moving everything was closed. So... the next best thing to food late at night is Indian Gaming. There's a reservation a couple miles outside of Porterville and that ended up being our new destination. What they don't tell you is that once you get onto the reservation, its still something like a 13 mile drive on a curvy mountain road with no lights on it. Nice road to be on in the middle of the night. So we trek out to the High Mountain Casino. I played nickel slots for short time and we all decided that even thought the place was PACKED, it was not exactly that much fun. The amount of smoke alone in the place just about killed me. We got back on the road and headed back to the hotel. We said our goodbyes to Angelo and Adam and got to bed. BUT, i turned on the TV and ended up watchin the Time Machine til fuck who knows what time.

Today we got on the road and got home really quick. We stopped in the Valencia area (actually i think its Newhal) for a lunch and then kept moving. I was really sure that as soon as i got home i would start workin. NO WAY. I was so tired from driving that i took a 4 hour nap. I'm finally getting back into it now and i need to get a dumpload of work done.

Monday September 8th 2003 02:24 AM PST
its been a late night of php and server fun. I've never been so frustrated with myself. i spent the better part of an hour trying to get a fuckin .htaccess and .htpasswd file to secure a directory. the browser would ask for my password and would not let me through. i changed the .htpasswd 50 times thinking that i had made the entry incorrectly. when i finally pulled my head out of my ass and stepped back for 5 seconds i realized that in my .htaccess file i had written the domain with a .net instead of .com. I really hate living in a apartment building with neighbors so close. OTHERWISE i would have made myself feel better by screaming at the top of my lungs.

but i have to admit now that i'm done i've built something that the client will be happy with. i just wish i had more than 6 hours before i had to meet with them. well off to bed.

Monday September 8th 2003 02:36 AM PST
and Jesus said... "BEHOLD the power of my CEILING FANS." and it was cool.

Here's the first round of pictures from this weekend.

Tuesday September 9th 2003 01:56 AM PST
welcome another blog into the world. i think i am contributing to the moral decay of the world by the number of dumb fucks that i have set up with blogs. well here's another one. everybody welcome justin into the bloggin world. i have a feeling that the trolls are going to come out for the posts on this blog. just wait, there will be some good reading for sure.

Tuesday September 9th 2003 10:41 PM PST
all work and no play makes dave a dull boy....

but

cable television makes dave a couch potato.

a little Joe Schmo Show and Queer Eye and the night has been wasted. Well not wasted. These two shows are honestly the only things on TV worth watching. After tonight i am going to turn the TV off for a few days due to all the 9-11 memorial RATINGS run. You can always depend on television networks to beat a dead dog until the last cent has been sucked out of it.

Well the Fighting Temptations Mixer went live today which made me VERY happy. I started the project before i left for Hawaii, and its finally DONE!!! I do have to admit it went together a lot better than i had expected, it just ended up taking a little longer.

Tuesday September 9th 2003 11:50 PM PST
ok, Howard always has the best shit on his show. This guy actually farted 460 times in 5 minutes!!!

Wednesday September 10th 2003 11:42 PM PST
I just got a little depressed. I checked the answering machine and got a message from Anthony Pest Control. They had heard from our landlord that the raccoons had moved back in and would like to schedule an appointment with us. I have to call them and tell them that we no longer live at that apartment. BUT i never thought i would say this.... i miss the raccoons. They were loud, but at least i could spray them with the hose. I can't do that with my neighbors when they are loud. Well... maybe i could, but i don't think it would be a good idea.

Thursday September 11th 2003 11:34 PM PST
I just noticed something funny. MTV planned "the kiss" so well, that they even had Justin all set up ready to cut to. What they didn't plan on was... that Carson Kressley would be having the time of his life seeing two women kiss on stage.

go watch it again. Its worth seeing the flamboyant gay guy jumping around in his chair behind the pissed off JT.

Friday September 12th 2003 11:21 AM PST
I'm assembling a mix right now for a little wedding shower jen is throwing this weekend for annie. I've got over 2 hours already put into it, but i'm easily distracted by really good music in my library. I don't know what it is about "Summer Overture" from Requiem that always has the ability to make my skin crawl... ACTUALLY i know EXACTLY what makes my skin crawl. Its the fuckin movie. Dear Darren Aronofsky, would you please direct another movie SOON. Oh, just checked IMDB. 2004 for the next wave of movies. Ecopsychology, Theodore Roszak, and a movie called Flicker. Hmmmm. Looks like i have something to really look forward to.

Ok, so i completely have stopped with the mix and i'm just sitting in my office just listening to the entire score for Requiem. I just have to go look back through the music. Its for a wedding shower, so i should probably avoid any Tori Amos rants about how awful boys are. :)

Monday September 15th 2003 10:54 PM PST
i thought i was going to get so much done today. Well the day is almost over and i've still not started anything that is due tomorrow. i've been bouncing ideas around, but not getting anywhere. Macromedia has started to piss me off again. I've been using Flash since Macromedia first bought out Future Wave and made FutureSplash into what we now call Flash. So at the beginning i remember sitting down with Macromedia developers and talking with them about features that should be included in later versions. We did this a few times while i was at boxtop and then a few more times while i was Paramount. Some of the features that i wanted are now actually a part of the product. But others. OBVIOUS others are still not included in Flash MX. So today i'm killing myself trying to find a fuckin way for flash to write a file of some kind. Now, don't start to comment telling me that i'm a dumbass. I know about the shared object. I know you can write SMALL files with this little piece of shit. But that's not what i need. I need something that actually will write a log file that can be read by another application. I need something that just writes a TEXT file. How much is that to ask. Well i've been asking for basic fileIO since flash version 2.0, and FINALLY macromedia has pulled their heads out of their asses and put it into the lineup of the features of Flash MX 2004. Well what good is it going to do me. I've gotta get the fuckin project done by the end of the week. Well i guess better late than never. As we used to say at 5555...

Macromedia,
You are not quickly!

Tuesday September 16th 2003 11:13 AM PST
I just have a stupid question. How many people actually fall for the Nigerian $75 Million Dollar Scam? I figure its the same thing as junk mail. You get junk mail all day long and you wonder how many people actually buy the shit they're selling. I heard some statistic a month ago about how well spammers actually do. So then i have to ask... how many people fall for the Nigerian thing. I don't get em often, but i do get them. Every once in awhile i go through the junk box of my email and look at all the shit my filter has pulled out, and almost every time theres one of these in there.

I am Barrister Fred Oladipo, i represent Mohammed
Abacha, son of the late gen. Sani Abacha, who was the
former military head of state in Nigeria, he died in
1998. Since his death, the family has been losing a
lot of money due to vindictive government officials
who are bent on dealing with the family, based on this
therefore, the family has asked me to seek for a
foreign partner who can work with us as to move out
the total sum of us$75,000,000.00 ( seventy five
million united states dollars ), presently in their
possession.
I just feel fuckin sorry for the poor sap that actually will send all their personal information as well as their bank account numbers thinking that somebody is going to actually just send them FREE MONEY. Does anybody out there know how many people this has nailed?

Tuesday September 16th 2003 01:44 PM PST
So i got a new computer. Yup, just another one to add to collection. BUT i have to admit that this one is fairly fast. Problem is the RAM is backordered and didn't ship. So i got a computer that don't work. Well it will give me time to play with all the tiny little pieces that came with it. So if you're wondering, its an AMD Athalon 2200. Most of the shit is on the MOBO and i got a Radeon 9600 pro so it will be a fine gaming system.

I'm actually thinking about running out now and just buying 128MB of ram just to get me up and running and waiting for the 512 to ship. hmmmm... time to run to the store.

Tuesday September 16th 2003 03:01 PM PST
So this is hard to believe, but i pulled the drive from my old windows box and slapped it into the new puter. Blue screen on startup as i expected, but i ran the win2k repair and i'm already up and running. Now it did take me a lot longer than setting up my Mac, but it the best windows install i have dealt with yet. (i better shut up cause the computer will most likely explode now that i've said this)

Wednesday September 17th 2003 11:19 PM PST
So i thought i would get more done today. Well what's new. All i did was solve some problems in my head and deal with a few clients. Nothing really big at all. I did however pick up a little job from an old contact. So now i've gotta stay up for a few more hours to do a little work for her. Nothing much, just a little HTML. But i think there's nothing better to keep you on your toes.

I've been toying arounding with my new windows box more today. I've found that although my Mac's are very high powered, their GUI is still a little slow. I've come to the conclusion that i can build my own little interface applications to get around. I've started to build a few little web appliactions that let me browse the huge amount of pictures that i've got on my computer. With as many shots as i take with my digital camera, the real problem is being able to find a shot you're looking for. So i've got a little app that works with shockwave, javascript and PHP running on my mac. Internet explorer on the new windoze box offers enough power to get through the app, and it lets me rip thorugh images so i can find the crap i'm looking for. Now i just need to build a little histogram app to save image data into a database. Then maybe i'd really have something.

Thursday September 18th 2003 03:38 AM PST
So i just worked straight through and got all the stuff done. All in all, it was not a hard job at all, just tedious. Now its around 3:30 and i know i'm not going to get to sleep until after 4. I just wish these little jobs would pop up more often. Cause i know even if i wasn't working tonight i still would have stayed up and just fucked around. Now at least i got paid for my time.

Saturday September 20th 2003 12:12 AM PST
Justin is literally the luckiest bitch in the world. he came over yesterday and he's a mess. He leaves shit all over my house and i can't figure out how he remembers where anything is. We worked on his website a little and played Quake a lot and then went to dinner with Will and Jen. So then Will hangs out for awhile and Justin gets on the phone to talk to his new girl. He sits outside on the street next to his car talking on his cell phone. He out there for a LONG time. Will bails and then Justin leaves at about 2AM. As soon as he leaves i try to get to bed. As i'm getting ready, at 2AM exactly, Justin's watch beeps to mark the hour. Yup, well he's left his watch behind. So then today in the morning he calls me and asks... DOOD, have you seen my wallet? I search the entire fuckin house. I move the couch, i rip apart my office. So tonight he calls again, still has not found it. I keep looking. Finally after callling Houston's (where we went for dinner) i finally grab a flashlight and take a look outside. Lucky Bitch! His wallet was sitting in the gutter on the street. The fuckin money was still inside and i don't think anybody had even noticed it after sitting on the street for almost 24hours. So he just stopped by to grab it with a few friends. I sent them on their merry way up to old town where they can spend $10 for parking and walk around in the herd of cattle.

Monday September 22nd 2003 01:27 PM PST
So this weekend was shit. Friday brought news that just put Jen and I in a shitty mood all fuckin night. We had to "bail" on Will because of it. Sorry about that one Will. Friday night was spent sitting up and not sleeping. So after Friday night we pulled our shit together and tried to look happy for about 6 hours while we hung out for Dennis's 30th birthday party. I have to admit, driving a tiny little go-cart at high speed actually will take your mind off your life. I mistook Juliet for Steve in the final heat and did nothing but push hard on the inside of corners and try to constantly get in his (her) way. I finally made the pass, but never could manage to get by pierre. Jon took the entire 8 race competition, and after everything was over i took a look at the little lap performance sheets. Jon was FUCKIN MOVING. His lap times were on average 4 seconds faster than mine. I think i gotta get back to the grand turismo. So then we went to Dave and Busters. We had a good time there, but i was really getting tired. After a couple hours of playing really expensive video games, i was ready to hit the road. So jen and i "bailed" again and went home where we promptly went to sleep. We didn't wake up til really late Saturday night when we finally realized that we were both hungry. We figured we'd go to In N Out, but when the line wrapped around the parking lot we parked and went to Twohey?s. We had the usual number 5 and number 7 and hot fudge sundae with bittersweet chocolate. At this point we went home and Jen and i sat in front of the TV watching nothing for the rest of the night.

Sunday we spent time with both sides of the family. We went to tea at the Huntington with Jen's parents and tooled around the gardens as usual. Then that night we headed over to my parent's house for dinner and just to hang out and shoot the shit. It didn't take too long before the conversation degenerated into teaching and politics.

My father had been told about RateMyTeacher.com and was very happy to say that he has a very good rating. Jen and i did a little surfing through the site and found a number of our old teachers. The most funny of all i think is the rating that Chad Houck got. The picture that is mentioned in one of the reviews... the one in the 1990 yearbook. I took a look. The really funny one is on page 191. It just so happens that a girl that year decided to write all over that page and completely block out the picture of Chad.

So i got home last night and everything fell apart again. jen's got back to school night tomorrow, so she needs to get a packet ready for the parents. Well most of the pages are done, but i needed to do page layout for about 5 of them and get em all ready. On top of that, i didn't have the wireless network set up and the laptop was not ready to use and the printer has been reconfigured, so Jen was a little pissed off. We finally got everything done, and i started to dig into the problems with my blog. Now i think i've got it, but i'm going to test for a few more days to see if this works ok. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Monday September 22nd 2003 04:39 PM PST
Will wrote about the video game pricing at dave and busters. I think i might be able to shed a little light on exactly how fucked up this is.

on the card machine: $1 for 3 credits
on each game machine: how many credits per play

on the street fighter machine that Will and I played it was 3.7 credits per play.

So 1 credit = 33.33333 cents
so 33.333333 x 3.7 = 123.3333333
So that means we were playing street fighter for close to a buck and a quarter!!!!!!!

Even worse.... the skeeeeball machines were 9.7 credits!!!! THAT's $3.25!!!!!! HOLY SHIT

And the 20 that's on the card is actually not a $20. Its a 20 showing that dave and buster's is celebrating its 20 year anniversary. So i am not really sure how much money was on each of the cards in the first place.

Monday September 22nd 2003 08:47 PM PST
i just found something that just confuses the shit out of me. I was watching Dinner for 5 on IFC. Yes, we can talk about how much TV i watch later, but that's not the point. John Landis was one of the guests. Now if you look at all the great movies that Landis has directed over his career, they will include The Blues Brothers, American Werewolf in London, Trading places, Animal House, Spies Like Us, and Coming to America. Now the thing that just shocked me is that he also directed Innocent Blood! This is hands down the worst movie i have ever seen, and it holds the place in my heart for being the only movie that i've walked out on. I don't know, it was just funny to make the connection. I just was really confused to see it on his list of directing credits. But then again he did direct Thriller also.

Wednesday September 24th 2003 02:22 AM PST
I see that MSN has announced that they will be shutting down all chatrooms on their service in Europe, the Middle East, Latin America and most of Asia (according to bbc). What is funny is the explanation. They say that they are making the move to avoid SPAM and to increase child safety on the internet. Ok, begin the rant. Microsoft is not doing this for the safety of children. Don't fuckin kid yourself. They're doing it because they need to cover their own ass. more and more children are approached in chatrooms by sick fucks and Microsoft doesn't want to be liable. I don't know HOW MUCH they already spend to moderate chat environments, but no matter how much money they throw at moderation, there is still a chance that something will happen. This has got to scare the shit out the lawyers at Microsoft. So their solution makes perfect sense, but everybody else thinks that this is about the kids. People are even stupid enough to say that this might affect free speech!! I know most people are stupid, but stupid and paranoid?!?!? Microsoft shutting down one of its "systems" can only make things BETTER. News flash people!! There are always going to be chat rooms. (if mcdonald's stopped making hamburgers, i think you might still be able to find other ways of getting a tasty (nasty) burger). There will always be IRC networks that people can chat in (and do a whole lot more too).

Thursday September 25th 2003 12:05 AM PST
OMFG this guy has got the idea.

Friday September 26th 2003 04:02 PM PST
Ok, i want a deck of these. I also saw another report on the news showing another company selling a 52 card deck that i much like it. If anybody knows where you can get your hands on one of these... please tell me.

Monday September 29th 2003 12:14 AM PST
Spent the weekend in Avalon with my Parents. It was a little cloudy, but the temperature was great. I think if there is any time you can avoid the shitty heat of california, there is no reason to complain. We tooled around in the golf cart, hit the normal knick knack shops and did nothing else but EAT. Hit Buffalo Nickel for lunch and Armstrong's for dinner. Barb who is a family friend lives in Avalon and works in armstrong's, so the hour long wait outside was a little shorter for us. Dinner there is always great. We drank WAY TOO MUCH, and headed back to Hamilton Cove where we played dominos and cards til the middle of the night. The ocean was smooth going to and from the island, so Jen was really happy. As we were waiting for the boat on Friday, i asked Jen if she would try on my headphones. I had this stupid feeling that maybe the pressure on her ears might make her feel better during the trip over. We've tried everything else, and i knew it was a longshot. So in the longrun i think Jen might have felt a little better and i lost my MP3 player for the trip.

Monday September 29th 2003 10:29 AM PST
Some ideas just come to me in the middle of the night. I could not sleep last night too well. At about 4AM i was sitting in bed and a little devious idea popped into my head.

What's stopping me from combining a email client and a simple gnutella client. Stick with me on this one. Most really good email filters are based on people actually voting on what is spam and what is not. You pay a service and it matches fingerprints of your mail with fingerprints of agreed upon spam. Take it one step further. Eliminate the service and instead use a gnutella link to other people. Each piece of mail is tokenized or fingerprinted and identified with a unique ID number then if you think its spam you give it a vote. It floats around the system and other people mark it as spam as well. When a threshold is met, the spam is automatically marked as junk in other email clients when they first receive it.

NOW FOR THE ILLEGAL PART

This is where the devious part is. (And i have to tell all law enforcement officials that i have not done this so go arrest some killer or child molester.) Link the same gnutella client to a simple listing of urls that are currently targeted for DOS. Everybody votes on these ones too. If you think a piece of SPAM is so bad that it deserves retribution you vote for a combined DOS. If a much higher threshold is met, then the system sends that URL to all clients and asks for the volunteered bandwidth to fire off the DOS.

Its a simple idea, and i think its actually the people's right to defend their own mailboxes.

Now is this is a good idea? I've been thinking about it and know that the bandwidth itself would not be too huge for the checking and voting. This could be done and eliminate pay systems for filtering. In most cases it might be able to be built into existing email clients as a plug-in. So could it be abused? Well as long as you have a larger number of trustworthy users than "evilbad" users, then the voting system itself should work. Now is the DOS attack system a good idea? This one i don't know. I know little about being on the SENDING end of a DOS, so i really know nothing about the bandwidth considerations in order to make them a true threat.

anyway.... i'm opening this one to the floor for suggestions.

Monday September 29th 2003 01:15 PM PST
So today the arrowhead guy is making the dropoff for us, or at least i think so. He backs all the way down the alley and stops his truck. I go out to catch him to make sure he knows where we are, cause last time he didn't drop us any bottles. He looks at me like i'm speaking some foreign language, then he finally recognizes me from the old place. I guess for some reason he didn't have us on his delivery list, so he grabbed my account number and gave me a few bottles. He was so happy to see that we live on the first floor. All the other deliveries that he makes in the apartments around us are all on the 2nd floor and he's sick of em.

Tuesday September 30th 2003 02:19 PM PST
There is always legitimate SPAM. People trying to sell products or services that actually are real. Then there is shit like this. I got a spam today speaking of the incredible savings that i can make at the gas pump by using this great little device. Take a look at the site. Its such a scam its not even funny. Take a look at the credit card form. Its not secure. AND the registration for the domain was done through a system in germany. This one stinks so bad its not even funny. The really sad part about this, is that i know these guys are making money off of stupid people. I don't know what to think. How much it sucks to steal from dumb ass people, or how fucking ashamed i feel when i realize that the little american flag in the bottom corner means nothing more than they are targeting DUMBASSES mostly in the US. I guess what i mean is... if you fall for this shit, you deserve to part ways with your hard earned money.

Tuesday September 30th 2003 03:42 PM PST
i got pissed at myself last night. I happens all too often these days it seems. So what did i do about it this time? Well lets just say i don't have to do any repair plaster work this time around. I just got even with my hair. I think it needed to be taught a lesson, so i got rid of most of it. Jen has not seen yet, and i hope she doesn't check the blog before she gets home. I cut it a lot shorter than i usually do and i am starting to agree more and more with Will's opinion of less hair means less trouble.
