HERE's WHAT IT SAYS ON THEIR SITE
" AT&T will collect and use customer identifiable information for billing purposes, to provide and change service, to anticipate and resolve problems with your service, or to create and inform you of products and services that better meet your needs. "
Does it fuckin matter that i don't want them to call? (or mail or email) nope. They don't fucking care. Yawn. And.... on top of it all i am just sick of Verisign. I've just started to get mail at my current address with company names that i ONLY used with verisign YEARS ago. This is a fuckin laugh. I get FIDGET company mail at my new address. People asking me if i want a fuckin company credit card under FIDGET! LOL
O.k. Dave, I know I told you I'm stalking you, but now I"m actually writing you a comment on your web site.... but since this is kinda in my area, I excuse my participation by saying that this is just professional advice from a friend. Anyway, as you may or may not be aware, there are actually federal laws out there protecting consumers from telemarketer hasseling. Here are some of the legal consumer remedies that I copied off of a anit-telemarketer web site (www.antitelemarketer.com)which is full of suggestions on how to deal with these people. Hope this helps! There are several tactics one can use to stop junk callers:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. The do not call list/ do not call policy: every telemarketer must maintain them according to FTC law (excluding charity/non profit) Tell the telemarketer to add you to their do not call list, and to send you a copy of their do not call policy. If they violate this twice within 12 months, a lawsuit can be filed for $500.00 per violation. Considering all of the telemarketers and all of the lists, this is method alone is not an effective way to battle calls.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2. Junk call/mail removal services: These services will send your name to to be deleted from marketers lists on your behalf. The largest and most effective of these services is Private Citizen, Inc. which will submit your name to be added to over 1500 telemarketer's do not call lists. Private Citizen members have collected over $150,000 using method #1 ( www.privatecitizen.com / 1-800-CUT-JUNK )
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3. Phone hardware/devices: There are several devices which can hook up to your telephone to thwart callers, The Phone Butler issues a message in an English butler-sounding voice upon pressing the asterisk key on your phone, The Easy Hang-up gives a short polite message upon pressing the button on the unit. The Pre FONE filter issues a message before your phone even rings that telemarketing calls are unwelcome, all other callers must simply press 5 to get through. Some individuals use thier answering machine to screen their calls.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
4. The Direct Marketing Association's telephone preference list: According to the DMA, this list is supposed help cut down on telemarketing lists. Telemarketers are not required to use this list. (see related page)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
5. Reverse prank calling, known on antitelemarketer.com as Telemarketer Tormenting Techniques. These are jokes played on telemarketers to confuse, annoy, or offend. This may not be the most effective way to stop the calls, but it is very satisfying.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
6. Never buy anything or donate anything to anyone who telemarkets you (not even family). Your name and number will spread on telemarketers lists like wildfire.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
7. Get an unlisted number: Telemarketers sometimes use the telephone book to compile their lists. This is not a sure-fire way of getting off the lists, but can help a little.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
8. Warranty/Registration cards/Surveys. Many times people unwittingly provide their phone number to telemarketing lists by filling out the cards that come with the merchandise that they buy, and surveys which offer free products.
