I guess GREGG EASTERBROOK of Time Magazine missed the point. I don't want to go on a huge rant here, cause it really defeats the purpose. But i will just say this. Read this article. While you read, every time he makes ANY reference to Columbia, metally replace Columbia with one of the following. Any early Exploration Ship sent across the Atlanitc, The Titanic, or any other ocean Liner that was really expensive( but the leading technology of the time), or finally a Covered Wagon with a group of settlers that wanted something more. Then think about the similarities. I know it's not EXACTLY the same, but these things never stopped, they just evolved. The early wooden ships got better and safer as the technology developed.

But we have to realize one thing. After we've sat here and talked so much about the technology and the budgets and the safety. WE'RE BEING STUPID. None of our bullshit talk changes the fact that the people who risked their lives were doing the things that they loved. All the things i mentioned above contained one thing BEYOND the technology... The people who wanted to find something more, build something better, and explore the unknown. Gregg missed the point. It doesn't matter if you stop the shuttle, the people will still be there. They'll find a way to side-step the people who say it can't be done.
