X-Men United this weekend was all that i hoped for. Well everything BUT a foucus on one or two of the X-Men.
Ebert and Roper both gave it thumbs up, but said that they wish instead they would make these more of an
adventure of 2 or 3 of the X and then do another one quickly. They laughed at the fact they knocked out one
characters for over an hour of the film so that they could give more screen time to the rest. Well i agree. The
FX are great the action sequences are great, but Brian Singer seems to pace things a little. As far as acting
goes... Its X-men! Did you expect an oscar award winning performance here? There isn't time. You've got a
few oscar award winners and a few more that can do a great job. They just don't get the opportunity. I guess
my biggest complaint is that its spread too thin. There are too many characters to cover, and there is not
enough time. Marvel knew what to do when there was a demand for one character story line. They'd make a
spin off comic or pop characters into other other story lines. They should not plan on this being a X-men
"trilogy". There needs to be 4 or 5 or more of these movies to cover everything that is going on. Don't worry, I
am not saying this movie is BAD. Its actually the opposite. I wish it was the same movie, only about 4 hours.
That way you could spend a little time in the "first half" of the movie. There's more character development of
they guys you know, introduction to a few new characters, and a lot more mystery of what exactly is going on.
If they could have done that for 2 hours i would have been happy.
The Chinese Theater is always the place to see a movie also. I've said it before and i'll say it again. A movie
theater can have the BEST sound system in the world, but it doesn't matter if they don't turn it up. The
Chinese has no problem with blasting the sound. Ok, time to make the one complaint. They need to have
assigned seating. The arclight does it. But i do understand why. If you have 1000 people waiting in line 12
hours for a movie you draw a lot of attention. You get media coverage and you also have those 1000 people
buying crap from you and all the businesses around you. i just have tickets for the Matrix and i am designated
LINE BOY. Oh well. I'll bring my Game Boy Advance, my MP3 player and a book.
And now back to the little side project
I gotta say third time is a charm. I've broken the last two attempts to cast a concrete mold. I built the last one
a little better than the first, but it still broke the cast at it was setting. The wood inside cracked the concrete as
it swelled. So this time i got it right. I used two blocks of styrofoam to create the inside of the cast. This way
there would be no swelling. Well i got it right. I finally got one of the casts out in one piece. Now i just need to
build the rest of the fountain. Oh, forgot to say that. I'm not JUST making a block of concrete. I actually was
trying to make something useful.

I'm not that wild about the Chinese. The seats are old and uncomfortable. My favorite
places are either the Arclight, which is state of the art or the Edward's near my house in
Calabasas. The Edward's is great because 1) it's close, 2) Lisa and I can always get our
favorite seats, 3) it's fairly new and the chairs are comforable and 4) the teens that run
the snack counter aren't brain-dead so the lines are amazinly fast.

The best thing about the Chinese theater is that its pretty hard to have a bad seat. My show of XMen was totally sold out too, we showed up about 45 minutes before showtime and were most of the way down the block and still managed to get center aisle seats about 15 rows back. As for being the LINE BOY, I would say, no need to camp out or anything, just be there by like 5:30 before everyone else gets off work, and I'll go right from work there to spell you. Then its only a couple hour wait with the movie being at 10. Plus, maybe you can get Steve-o to join you, since he won't be working that day either.
