Keep in mind, Anne, none of her guesses about what Elton was doing are necessarily correct. Since she had the wrong number, she never got any confirmation from him, and she could have just been mistaken. My answering machine ran out before the whole "saga" could go any further than her calling every couple hours to try to get him to answer the phone, so it's possible it was just a misunderstanding and he never even knew she was trying to get a hold of him.
Anyway, that's how I justify it to myself so I can enjoy the entertainment value of it all ;-)
