working with games

when i worked on movie web sites, it usually resulted in me NOT wanting to see any movies. So now, you'd think, that because i work on video game sites, i would not want to play video games. Well it could not be further from the truth. I picked up Doom3 the other day and have been playing like crazy. I played a little of spiderman the other day at work and i'm thinking of picking that up too. But there are a few games that i am really looking forward to. First is X-Men Legends. Now, i'm a little too close to this one, cause i'm building the promotional site for the game. But the materials that i've seen are looking great. The guys down in print have made some great package artwork, and we're ready to lauch a new section to the official site. I just want to get my hands on the game now.

BUT that's not the game i'm really looking forward to.

Rockstar is doing another Grand Theft Auto. This one titled "San Andreas". From the limited material on their site so far it is obviously set in LA and the valley probably in the 80's and 90's. It looks fuckin hot from what i've seen so far. I do have to laugh at their ESRB "bugs". They actually put a RP (rating pending) on their site. :) The ESRB should just not even bother and give them the M right off. GTA Vice was "M" and it was honestly one of the most fun games i've ever played.

I picked up Doom3 the other day and tried installing it last night. The damn thing is defective! I can't get the last .pak file installed. It keeps dying on read errors. Goddamn annoying I tell ya. I'm dying to play it! I've been playing a lot of Q3A again lately. Doing all the single player maps on Nightmare. I miss the lunch hour tourneys.

I got to Delta Labs Level 2 and I've hit a bug. I'm stuck in a room and if i look down a hallway some object that just comes into my field of vision crashes the entire game. I have no idea what it is, but i can walk around the room all i want. As soon as i look down the hallway, Boom, no more game. I've had to hard reboot a few times and finally win2k didn't want to take it any more. I needed to do a repair install of windoze and i had a nice little conversation with the computer as i spent the better part of 4 hours reinstalling drivers and installing service packs. POS. When does the mac version come out?

BUT, i won't say anything bad about Doom3 other than the tech problems. The gameplay is unfuckinbelievable. Triggers in the environment are there just to scare the shit out of you. And the demons running around after you move like no other computer enemy. They'll switch from a standing bipedal motion, to a quadraped that will climb the walls and ceiling. The most common demons can drop to all fours at any time and jump straight at you. You try to charge them with a shotgun and you run the risk of them jumping at your knees and attacking you.

BTW i forgot to mention the other game i'm looking forward to... THUG2! Tony VS Bam. Hmmm funny, almost everything i'm playing is Activision. :)
