Still Sick

Wed night of last week i started to feel crappy. I took Thursday off from work so hopefully i would not get anybody else sick, and to just take it easy. Turns out, the joke around the office was, i had taken the day off just to work on my Pinewood Derby Car. Well lets just say being sick really fuckin sucked, but it did give me the time i needed to work on the car.

So this all leads to Friday, which was the 1st Annual Pinewood Derby at Ignited Minds. Everybody learned the Details of the race about a week ago, and all were in a mad race to build their cars. So i built a nice little car with a 7 inch propeller on the back end of it. Powered by a 9 volt battery and a small motor. My front bumper had a switch that would keep the motor off as long as the car was resting against the starting gate. As soon as the gate went up, the motor would start.

So during the morning, most people were checking out everybody elses cars and eating the country fair style cooking we had. We started the racing around 3 PM and ran a race every 5 minutes for 2 hours. My first race I had to challenge Keegs and his Pirate Ship. He and I took the two center lanes and we knew right away that his sail, and my prop were going to tangle. So as soon as the gate goes up, my prop kicks in and digs into his sail. The two cars get stuck together as they fly down the track. Then right before the finish line, my prop gets loose and kicks in. The car races ahead and takes the finish.

Then on the semi-finals race, i don't know what i was thinking. I put my car in an outside lane. The prop had no chance of clearing the starting gate, but i somehow seemed to miss this little detail. The gate goes up, and the prop digs into the bar directly next to it, pushing it off the edge of the track. No win for me.

But I won my first race. AND... Sylvia and Maria, my two teammates, also won their first races. So that made us the fastest team overall. So we all got trophies for that! :) Then i also won 2nd place for craftsmanship on my car.
