just occured to me

I just started thinking... Hurley got the numbers from a guy in a looney bin. What would cause a guy to go nuts so that he was just keep repeating number over and over? Well maybe if you locked the guy in a underground bunker and made him type those numbers into a computer every 108 minutes. I've got a feeling that the gut that Hurley met was an earlier test subject probably a couple years before Desmond showed up. The question is, who or what got him off the island and into that looney bin? Funny to think they have this all written up already. Good planning and writing.

They said that guy was stationed at a remote listening station and that is where they (the dead Aussie) heard the message broadcasting the numbers (which was the message broadcasting from transmitter on the island before the French chick changed it). You should read the televisionwithoutpity.com forums, they have some really wild theories floating around out there.
