and tottally forgot about pirates

Is it just me? or didn't Pirates of the Caribbean just suck? I'm not saying the special effects were not good. But that doesn't carry a movie anymore. Where was everything else? I was a little shocked at how bad it was, but still it made #1 for the second week. I'm thinking a lot of people without Air conditioning went to the movies this weekend. For once the price of $10 to $15 a person was probably LESS expensive that running your AC at your home.

BUT STILL... it really was bad. It was 2 and half hours and ALL special effects. This leads me to the following theory. The movie was obviously a LOT longer and they had to cut it down. I think when the push to cut down came the simple decision had to be made between character driven scenes, and REALLY REALLY EXPENSIVE effects that has already been paid for. There FX shots get all the love. So money drove the decision to cut the way they did.

Well all it really felt like was a heavy handed set up for another sequel. I guess i expected nothing less from a summer blockbuster.

I haven't seen the sequel yet (and don't know if I will see it in theaters or not), but I noticed that the first one kinda blew too. The only good thing about it was how funny Johnny Depp's character was, but the rest of the movie was hugely mediocre. I guess a lame script and Orlando Bloom will produce that kind of result though. Thankfully Depp made it enjoyable. I can't imagine sitting through it for a second time though, and that's probably why I've been so apathetic about the sequel.
