Weekend update.
Everything became "real" this weekend. Friday the guest room was empty and painted and ready to go. Saturday everything changed, including "guest room". We got the full shipment of furniture, so suddenly it is VERY clear that its a nursery, and its COMING SOON! We've got a crib, a changing table, a rocking chair, and a little table and lamp. Its really cute, but its really freaking me out.
Friday night we got home and went out to dinner with my parents. We finally took them to New Moon in montrose. Good night and good food. We brought them back to the house and I was all proud of the compact fluorescent bulbs that i had installed all through my kitchen. I'm saving an assload of electricity by using these bulbs and they look almost exactly the same.
So saturday we ran to an early baby CPR class which turned out to be a train wreck. The instructor was stuck in traffic, and was filled in for by non other than some crazy "church lady" who openly admitted it was her first time teaching this class. Really started off good by giving us the confidence that we'd be learning something. So about 15 minutes in, a stand in teacher shows up to take the church lady's place. This teacher is actually the woman who taught our classes last weekend, so we feel a little more confidence now. So we practice on dummies and do all the song and dance of CPR. The church lady sits in the back of the class and interrupts regularly to insert completely useless personal experience stories. After 10 minutes of talking about nothing important, the stand-in teacher that we like regains control and continues. Then the original teacher shows up and there's a 3 way struggle for power. But the one that's obviously the smartest of the 3 (our old teacher) bails cause she knows she's no longer needed to be there. So then we sit though another hour of pain. The chuch lady throws in a couple more useless stories, and we get out as soon as we can.
We head home and wait for the deliveries. The guest room slowly becomes the nursery. The crib and changing table arrived. I find Jen just standing in the room smiling. I unpack a lamp thats been sitting around for a month, and assemble it. Its a touch lamp, with a surface that you just touch to turn it on and off. (we will come back to this later) We hang out and relax for a couple hours and then head out to dinner with Christ and Christina (and their 4month old Alyssa). When they show up Alyssa is so happy. She's not fussy when she's passed around to other people, but then we get in the car. Well needless to say, we don't think she likes traffic lights.
I drink way too much at dinner and have the opportunity to make a fool of myself way too many times. The great thing is... i don't remember much, and Jen's not mad at me, so i think i made it through ok.
Sunday we got another delivery for the nursery, this time the rocking chair. I find Jen again just standing around the room smiling. I'm having trouble with Jen's computer, and I can't seem to get the network to work properly. The problem started on Saturday. Hmmmm, what's the one thing that changed. Oh, its gotta be the lamp. I unplug it and it doesn't seem to fix anything. I figure it out later that the first time the lamp was unplugged, I had the settings wrong, so I didn't see any change. So after hours of screwing around with the network and I finally unplug the lamp again and everything is back to normal. The ethernet over power can't get a signal while the lamp is plugged in. I figure the switch mechanism is putting out a shitload of noise on the electrical line and is screwing with the network adapters.
Well at least i figured it out. BUT, it makes me think that maybe Will is having the same problem with his network adapters. the old wiring the his building is probably it, but there could be something else plugged in that's putting up too much interference.
anyway, lazy sunday as usual, and then a great episode of BSG.
so finally today I'm standing outside the main conference room of our all staff meeting. Bill always asks a couple trivia questions and gives a prize for one of em. So the big question today was, how much do compact florescent bulbs reduce electrical consumption? I've just spent the last couple weeks replacing EVERY bulb in the house, so I've read a lot of material on the subject. I know everybody doesn't agree on the figure, but for the most part 65% reduction is usually the average reduction in electrical consumption.
NOBODY attempts to answer, so i have to walk inside the conference room to answer. Bill says "correct" and that his figures show 66%, but he's giving it to me.
So i guess I win a 4pack of compact florescent bulbs. heheheh i've got 2 bulbs in the entire house that are NOT compact florescent. anyway...
