Dana Strand

For years Jen's family members have refused to go back to Dana Strand just because of all the construction thats going on there. We've always had the feeling that it was dead and the beach would never be the same now that there is a huge homeowners association development going in. Well... we could not have been more wrong. First, they did the development right. No pre-fab houses that all look the same. They sold the lots and the owners get to build like they want to. So at this point there are only a couple homes that are complete, and a couple under construction. But you can tell already that they are beautiful. So then there was the problem with the beach itself. The last time we went down there, the construction of the waste water drain was being worked on. There was a ton of foundation being poured and supports that were being built right up to the water's edge. We couldn't believe it. It was as if they were almost closing access to the south portion of the beach. Well now we see what they were doing. There is a boardwalk thats been built that allows you to walk in from Selva and head south down the beach. The breakwater rocks are right where they've always been, and the beach is just as wide as we remember it. The funny part actually is there are MORE people there now that the boardwalk has been built. Its still not a crowded beach at all, but we saw more people there today than we have ever this time of year. We can't really say how happy we are, the beach is beautiful.
