"The rain was so intense at times early this morning that residents reported hearing thunderous sounds, not knowing whether it was real thunder of the roar of mudslides."
This woke us up at about 5:30 AM when debris was flowing down the wash behind our house. We could not tell if it was thunder, a mudslide, an earthquake, or the entire friggin mountain coming down on us.
Everything that slid off the mountain up at the top of Ocean View and Briggs Terrace comes down the same path. There are a huge number of catches between the top and our house, but it still sounded like the end of the world coming.

Our House is on Oak Circle right a the bottom of the map. The "pool" area is the catch basin that overflowed and sent a wave of debris down the wash.

So you know what really pisses me off? Anywhere I live, I always miss the big, cool, potentially-dangerous natural disasters that manage to miss the people I care about by "this much" (teeny amount). When I was in CA with Ethan (A natural disaster unto himself) there was the flood in CO. When Kristi and I moved out here, there were tornadoes, floods and blizzards in IA. What gives? Am I a natural disaster aversion device?!
Anyway, that must have been kinda cool all the same. You have any pics?
